In Situ Characterization of Municipal Solid Waste Using Membrane Interface Probe (MIP) and Hydraulic Profiling Tool (HPT) in an Active and Closed Landfill

چکیده
Municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills near a metropolitan area are renewable energy resources to produce heat and methane that can generate electricity. However, it is difficult use those sources productively because disposed MSW in spatially temporally heterogeneous. Regarding the prediction of sources, analysis situ properties an alternative way reduce uncertainty understand complex processes undergoing landfill effectively. A hydraulic profiling tool (HPT) membrane interface probe (MIP) test measures continuous profile with depth, including pressure, temperature, electrical conductivity (EC), relative concentration at field. In this study, we conducted series tests investigate characteristics active closed landfills. MIP results showed existed closer right below top cover several peak concentrations different layers landfill. As depth age increased, pressure increased for both The average EC decreased age. properties, obtained from sites could be used estimate help designing recovery systems.

Geotechnical hazards associated with closed municipal solid waste landfill sites
As pressure for new infrastructure and development grows, it is inevitable that building projects will encounter some of the c20,000 closed former solid waste landfills in the UK, many of which will have accepted municipal solid wastes (MSW). Construction on or across these sites brings a special set of geohazards associated with the potential for large and difficult to predict settlements, gas...
متن کاملEstimation of gas emission from municipal solid waste landfill in Kuhdasht city using LandGEM software
Background: Large amount of solid waste is annually produced in Kuhdasht city. These waste materials are decomposed by anaerobic microorganisms after burying in disposal site and produce large amounts of gases (mainly methane and carbon dioxide). This study aimed to estimate the gas emission from solid waste disposal of Kuhdasht city using a tool known as LandGEM software. Materials and Method...
متن کاملMunicipal solid waste landfill siting using intelligent system.
Historically, landfills have been the dominant alternative for the ultimate disposal of municipal solid waste. This paper addresses the problem of siting a new landfill using an intelligent system based on fuzzy inference. The proposed system can accommodate new information on the landfill site selection by updating its knowledge base. Several factors are considered in the siting process includ...
متن کاملuranium in municipal solid waste landfill leachate
landfill leachates and leachate sediments were investigated in order to survey the discharge of uranium (u) from municipal solid waste (msw) landfills and municipal solid waste incinerator (mswi) bottom ash landfills. concentrations of u in the leachates were as high as or higher than concentrations of cd, a metal more often discussed when considering the environmental effects of landfill leach...
متن کاملDegradation of Biodegradable/Degradable Plastics in Municipal Solid-Waste Landfill
This paper provides information about biodegradability of biodegradable/degradable materials advertised as 100%-degradable or certified as compostable in a municipal solid-waste landfill. It describes a 12month experiment with five samples that took place in a landfill. The results, demonstrated that the polyethylene sample with the additive (samples 1) and sample labelled as 100% degradable (s...
